DMX at Luna Park, Sydney: Concert Review
December 3rd 2006 00:17
Along with several hundred other fans (and randoms) trooped to Luna Park's Big Top last Saturday evening in dreary weather to see the dog himself, DMX *woof woof*.
Those at the front of line had been waiting since about 5pm, were getting restless and started calling out " We want X..." which not long after turned to " We want Sex..." Yes well we all do, don't we?
I was surprised that DMX had so many Sydney fans, and there were about three or four times as many people at his concert than at Chingy's. Then again there could be a whole bunch of reason why this was so. Anyways.
The pre-show acts went smoothly and without the long DJ break in-between which we were all grateful for. I cheered my ass off for the second dance group with the bboys, krumpers and hiphop dancers who were my boys, my boyfriend among them doing all the flips and power sets (windmills and head spinning things).
I couldn't see much but I might put up the whole video of their rehearsal for those who missed out or want to see it again. They came out a second time just before X came out but were kicked out of backstage so they didn't get to meet him. Bum.
X came out and busted an hour's worth of the more well-known stuff (I had hoped he would do Back In One Piece from Romeo Must Die Soundtrack but no...) and it was over before we realised - his prayer was his finale (which was pretty dope) but then straight after he just walked off stage and people started clearing out. I thought the audience would have called him out for an encore but they got out of there as fast as they could.
What a huge anti-climax. Still, the hour of X and the shows leading up to it were packed with energy but I was confused with the DJ sets playing commercial stuff... it's a DMX concert so at least more gangsta rap and less Top 40?

There were crew doors but I'm not sure why Savage's crew went through the crowd... maybe because of the rain?
It was definitely X, but it's weird because some people gave the same reaction you did. I don't know, I was really surprised by the way the crowd just left when DMX started walking offstage, and maybe they felt the same way you did...?
