Hip Hop is NOT dead. Bitch.
January 4th 2007 11:05
Ooo first post for the year! (For this blog anyway...)
A good way to start this year off is positive thinking. And that includes believing that HIP HOP IS NOT DEAD. F*ckers. For real - you just blind and deaf.
I been getting a lot of comments from people in NY who say that Hip Hop is long gone, something to be ashamed of and poked fun at like nerds in internet cafés playing WOW and DOTA. How I even know those abbreviations well... I'll admit I'm a small time gamer. Real small, like your balls.
Then there's local peeps (mainly in Sydney I've discovered) who reject these statements and claim they love Hip Hop and all their friends do too. Facking teenyboppers.
I was at an R&B club a few weeks ago. I've grown to dislike them, for many reasons I won't list here (well, maybe another time when I'm close to the edge, trying not to lose my head. Uh huh. Uh huh.)
Anyways, the music was wack for most of the night. I'm talking about "DJs" dropping Fatman Scoop's overplayed and overpaid tracks that were hits back when I started sneaking into clubs with a fake i.d. Those were the days. There was also all this hybrid reggae-crunk-hop played one after the other after the other. All sounding the same with similar tempos and mostly by the same artists. Prolly cuz it's easy for the DJs to "mix".
Don't get me wrong, I love Pitbull once in a while, and had a dream once that he tried to seduce me and kidnapped me, driving off with me half-knocked out in the backseat from where I caught a glimpse of my boyfriend's confused face. I opened the backdoor and threw myself out of the car running at 90km/hr. What a f*cked up dream. I met Rihanna too who was going up and down escalators for about 20 minutes because she'd never seen them before.
Where was I? Oh yeah, the shit club. Funny thing is, I and about 5 other people out of a few hundred were bored out of our minds with the crap being played, while most people just went off everytime a crappier new track was played.
It was then that I felt old.
What happened to all the good R&B, the gangsta beats and old skool flava?
Well... it's there but ain't none of these kids touch it. Then I saw one of my friends tryna enjoy themselves like "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Screw that. You can beat 'em. With a stick. A long one with lots of nails on the end.
I decided the only thing I can do, besides venting on how much of a sh*t night it was, is just to stop going to these punk ass joints, open up my own club, and make the minimum age 21 y/o...
Except for Pauler, Jed and Chux cuz you guys are like my lil brothers... oh and my lil brother too cuz you drive me places. And my boyfriend (boy toy) so I'm guaranteed to get lucky that night. But that's all.

talk about feelin' old...man I'm 2 years into the thirties..try that on...hehe. Man I was there at Silk's "freak me" release party... now, the songs been remade 3 times....3 TIMES!!!! hehe, i gotta lie down...
The thing is I've been involved in one way or another with hiphop since 1989... dancin, supportin, mc'in, even started my own dj business for a good while... and to tell you the truth, hip hop never died. Yes, it changed, even changed face for a bit, but bottom line is - even through the hybernation, hiphop remained alive. I started out a b-boy, then became a Nu-Jacker, and now I get my reggaeton on... but through the journey hiphop was still alive....sometimes not well, but alive. So, keep dooin wot yah dooin, coz when these fake-ass paris hilton muthaF@#kers start ramblin their oooh hiphop is dead shit, then just re-assure them that if that's what they think then they should just stepp off!.. or just punch 'em...either way, iz cool wif me..
..and oh yeah, bring back the ol'skool gansat beats and flavas... b, i, g, PO, PPA!!! or From the depths of the sea...[feel me]

Thats so violent and neurotic it reminds me of my comedy blogs. ahahaha. and i always remind people of racism whenever they say "if you can't beat em, join em".
...
...
"i can't convince racists, so i'll just be racist myself!"
Case closed.
I heard Jurassic 5 while in sony central.... not bad.

It'll take a really elaborate and well-researched article with quotes and all that just to answer your question. Which is what I intended to do before I started going off in random tangents on this post.
But we have the same ideas.
I think I've been to one o-i-shii night, if it was the one with Dancekool, with Nacho Pop and DJ Naiki playing...?

Trina u said it while complaining about the music they were playin in the club... "All sounding the same with similar tempos and mostly by the same artists" except it affects all forms of 'successful' hiphop which u have to admit is more likely heard by the public then anything 'underground'.
All of the Australian HipHop magazines have Overseas artists on the cover...how do u develop a local scene like that? We have so many talented unsigned artists here who remain unsigned because they wont conform to the record labels demands, but we cant blame the industry for this...it is business and they are just trying to provide what they think the people want so they can make maximum profit.
The problem lies in people, societies so caught up in following the leader and 'fashion' that we've forgotten how to think for ourselves...so when i said before that Hip Hop has lost its balls...i see my communities as HipHop. From the clubs, radio, media to concerts, festivals and especially the internet, we have used and abused HipHop so much that now its like a production line spitting out different variations of the same product, sweatshop styles...
...something to think about...

Usually I appreciate even the crap. It's a Friday night and I'm at home surfing the net...I used to go out on a friday night more often than now. The older I get, the more difficult it is for me to find a place that does not play 50 cent or 20, 50 or 100 dollar bills so I can put my hands up..Y'ALL.

Goodbar on thursdays (Step Forward) was successful for a long time, I don't really understand the managements decision to dump it. Such an important institution...
But, its like KRS said: "U r not doing hiphop/U R hiphop"
Now there's a quote

It was the backbone of the Sydney underground, to my knowledge at the time. Back to Basics, hosted by Sereck (Def Wish Cast), held at the Lansdowne on Thursdays, soon replaced it.
They probably died out the same way - kids from out west believing its not a night out without the violence.
No, the general hiphopulace does not like these people, let alone agree with them. No matter where they're from.

and I tell yah - HipHop is still kickin up there; good tunes. They have places where Paris Hiltons go upstairs, and Mos Defs go down sturrrz.... nice set up.
pity it's a dead man's land, but their hiphop remains somewhat underground, so it was kinda good vibin up there. Matty B showed me a really cool time; we danced like ALL night and for an ol'codge like moi, that's a real surprise..hehe. You do get a few of those girlies wearing nothing but a band-aid and a handbag, swirlin around like poo in a bowl.... and if I ever here "Oh mah gawd, like, that's so gay like..." I'm gonna shove my hand in their mouths, grab a $100 in the other, and put both my hands up!!! [umm...a bit much, NAH!] yeah but there were some real people there so I ignored it easily...
ok..seriously...I've been listening to some Cuban hiphop and dude it's tight...ol'skool lines, raw as, latin rhythm, cool tracks....you should check it out!
luv ur work Miss T! I hope you and yours are well...JC
BTW would love to vibe with you baba!
