Philippines win 2006 World Hiphop Dance Championships

August 4th 2006 01:07
Now this is sick. I am of Filipino heritage, and we are stereotyped to be awesome dancers and/or singers and sure, most are *wink* so I'm not all surprised that the Philippines won the 2006 World Hiphop dance championships last week.

Here's the trailer:

33 countries, some with more than one crew entering had each put together a 2 minute routine and trained for months to get it as close to perfection as they could. Now 2 minutes is extremely short, with the average length of dance showcases around 6 minutes, so competitors could be really selective and focus on quality rather than quantity.

Second place was given to Dziah, one of four crews from New Zealand who raised up to $45,000 to compete in LA; third to Trinidad & Tobago, who had placed second at the same competition in previous years. Now our Kiwi neighbours had FOUR teams enter this, and I didn't hear of any Australian ones but then again I don't know anyone around who even knows about this event, let alone afford the trip. Maybe in the future... if not, hell I'm moving back to the Philippines!

Here are the full results of the finals (prelims are below):

Junior Division
3rd place: Ireland (Streets Ahead)
2nd Place: Japan (Next Jr.)
1st place: USA (Mini Shock)

Hey Mel!

Who was supposed to be in Australian team? I'll help you guys hook up with sponsors!!! You definitely shouldn't have to fund it all on your own...

For sure... you can enter more than one group from each country so... go CARAMELL! Then again I am highly biased.

Heya, good stuff. Definitely, there is a pool of great talent here in Australia. At the moment, the Hip Hop Daance comp called "Groove" by Hoopdreamz enterprises is uncovering some great groups with state competitions. The end of the year will see the nationals, and I think it would be great to see the best of the nationals make it to the World championships.

Take care and peace out...

Hi Dan,

Yup I'm quite familiar with "Groove", having competed in it myself earlier this year. My vote goes to Nu Skool Club to take out nationals!

Oh yes, they're a great group. I'm hoping my mates from SNAP will do great, hehe, but thats a whole bunch of bias right there.

BTW: Trina, great Blog. So you're the D2MG pres huh? I've heard about you, you're notorious lol no just kidding.

You're gonna have a bit of blogging competition. I might be a newbie as fresh as a listerine breath strip, but I intend to rip it up with my own hip hop blog set to begin this week.

Take care and peace out...

Oh yeah, SNAP is cool I'm friends with their newest member... I was in Groovesteps who are now on a break otherwise we'd be down for Battlegrounds.

Thanks. How do you know about D2MG??? Random!

That's cool, I thrive on competition, it pushes me harder. Goodluck with that.

Pz.

Hey y'all...
Well their was an australian team that competed in the Varsity division at this years World Hip Hop Comp in L.A!
They did really well... Can't remember their name though?
The Phillippine Allstars were awesome! If y'all didnt know, they had the highest score in the history of the comp... Quite close to a perfect 10!!!
DZIAH ripped up coming in 2nd from NZ!! Put the kiwi's on the map for sure... They also have 3 filipino's in their group of 11 multi cultured boys!!
Trinidad & Tobaggo are always in the top 3 so you always expect the best from them!!!
Way to go everyone!! Expect something real big next year!!!

Bipox...........dude, Korea did not compete and I'm 100% sure you didn't see their dance performance, so why should they win it? I think you're delusional.

FILOZ RULEZ - end of story!
